Lexton FNC - Looking After Our Mates

The Lexton Football Netball Club recently gave their younger playing members the opportunity to learn about responsible drinking and safe driving after Road Safe Central Highlands received funding through the Department of Transports Road Safety Community Grants program to deliver the Looking After Our Mates initiative in Football/Netball Clubs.

The session was run in conjunction with the TAC and AFL Victoria Road Safety round.

Looking After Our Mates is an information session designed to provide young people with knowledge about road safety, issues around alcohol and drugs and using the road. It also equips them with strategies to help keep themselves and their friends safe.

Lexton FNC President, Jordan Phelan, said “the Looking After Our Mates program is a great initiative by the Department of Transport and was an engaging and targeted session for our Under 17’s who are the future of our club.

It is imperative for us as a country football netball club to support and ensure the safety and wellbeing of our kids who will spend countless hours driving the roads to and from gamedays, trainings and club events as they get their L and P plates.

Programs like these are very relevant and to be able share this knowledge with our young adults in a club environment has been a very a positive experience.

We really appreciated the funding support from Road Safe Central Highlands.
